Kavitha to launch water rights stir in Palamuru

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) party founder Kalvakuntla Kavitha will launch a water rights stir Palamuru on May 8, focusing on alleged injustice in Krishna river water sharing.

This marks her first major political programme after forming the Telangana Rakshana Sena party. She has raised concerns over Telangana’s share of river waters.

Kavitha will begin the day by offering prayers at the Jogulamba Temple. Later, she will address a public meeting at Choudarigudem in Palamuru, located in Mahabubnagar district.

The venue lies near the proposed KP Lakshmi Devi Palli Reservoir, part of the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. The meeting has been titled “Palamuru–Rangareddy Project Realization Meeting.”

Water rights stir Palamuru focuses on Krishna river share

Kavitha has consistently criticised successive governments over water allocation. She said Telangana has not fully utilised Krishna waters despite more than a decade since state formation.

During her “Janambaata” outreach, she highlighted delays in the Palamuru–Rangareddy project. She said several components of the project remained incomplete.

The May 8 meeting will underline her demand for securing Telangana’s rightful water share. It is expected to focus on irrigation priorities and pending works.

Water rights stir Palamuru to outline agitation strategy

Kavitha is expected to announce an agitation strategy at the meeting. The plan aims to pressure both the Centre and the State to expedite approvals and execution.

Meanwhile, party leaders unveiled the meeting poster at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills. Leaders including Naveen Achari, Gongalla Ranjith Kumar, Syed Ismail, Naresh Prajapathi, Edurugatla Sampath Goud, Seema Ramesh, Buchibabu, and Mustafa attended the programme.

The public meeting is likely to set the tone for a broader movement on water rights in Telangana.
