Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Tuesday set a September 18 employee promises deadline for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. She warned that employees and teachers would intensify their agitation if the government failed to address their grievances.
Kavitha made the demand at a TRS conference in Baghlingampally on issues concerning government employees and teachers. She said government employees were “not slaves” of the Chief Minister and accused the government of neglecting their concerns.
Kavitha also called on employee unions to prepare for a blockade of Hyderabad if Revanth Reddy failed to respond by September 18. She assured the unions of full support from the Telangana Rakshana Sena.
Employee promises deadline linked to Hyderabad blockade call
Kavitha accused the Chief Minister of repeatedly going back on commitments made to employees and teachers. She also alleged that they faced threats instead of receiving solutions to their grievances. Recalling the separate Telangana movement, Kavitha highlighted the role played by teachers during the statehood struggle.
She said government employees remained essential to maintaining an efficient and transparent administration. Therefore, she demanded that the government recognise their contribution and address their pending concerns.
Kavitha also alleged that the Congress government had failed to implement its welfare schemes effectively. In addition, she accused the government of neglecting public education in Telangana.
She said Telangana had more than five lakh permanent government employees. The state also had another five lakh outsourcing employees and around two lakh retired employees, she noted.
The TRS president said her party would treat government employees as partners in development if voted to power. She also promised that the party would work to restore their dignity and welfare. Kavitha reiterated the Telangana Rakshana Sena’s commitment to providing free education and healthcare in the state.
She maintained that the employee promises deadline would give the Chief Minister until September 18 to respond to the demands. Otherwise, she said employees and teachers would step up their agitation with the support of her party.
