Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to expedite the Telangana high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai. He also sought early approval for several railway projects proposed across the state.
The Chief Minister met Vaishnaw at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi and discussed railway infrastructure projects considered essential for Telangana’s development.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy explained that the state government had reviewed the Centre’s proposals for the three high-speed corridors. It subsequently submitted revised proposals suggesting changes to the proposed alignments.
However, he clarified that the state government had not initiated land acquisition for any of the three corridors.
He said Telangana would begin acquiring land only after the Centre approved the final alignments. Therefore, he requested the Railway Ministry to complete the alignment approval process as early as possible.
Telangana high-speed rail corridors await alignment approval
Revanth Reddy stressed the need to accelerate the proposed Hyderabad–Pune, Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Chennai high-speed railway projects. He informed the Union Minister that Telangana had already communicated its suggested modifications to the central government.
However, the state was awaiting approval of the revised alignments before proceeding with land acquisition. The Chief Minister also requested immediate sanction for the proposed 130-km Vikarabad–Krishna railway line.
He explained that substantial limestone deposits had been discovered around Tekalkode in Vikarabad district. Consequently, the state government had prepared plans to develop the surrounding region into a cement and textile hub.
The proposed railway connection formed part of the infrastructure requirements discussed for the region’s industrial development. The Chief Minister also proposed developing a Regional Ring Rail alignment alongside the Regional Ring Road being constructed around Hyderabad.
The Regional Ring Road project covers approximately 360 km around the city. Revanth Reddy requested the Railway Ministry to plan the proposed rail corridor adjacent to the road alignment.
He said the Regional Ring Rail project would create employment opportunities on a large scale. The Chief Minister also renewed his request for immediate approval of several additional railway lines across Telangana and neighbouring regions.
These included the Dornakal–Gadwal and Kalwakurthy–Macherla railway routes. He also sought approval for the 250-km Kacheguda–Jaggayyapeta railway line and the 320-km Patancheru–Adilabad route. Additionally, he requested sanction for the 175-km Bodhan–Latur railway line and the 8-km Akkannapet bypass line.
Telangana seeks approval for Mahabubabad railway maintenance depot
Revanth Reddy urged the Union Railway Minister to approve a proposed mega coaching and freight maintenance depot near Mahabubabad. He requested that South Central Railway establish the facility at Anantharam village.
The Chief Minister reminded Vaishnaw that the Telangana government had already agreed to transfer 409.1 acres to the Railways. The land was earmarked for the proposed maintenance facility.
He therefore sought early permission for the mega freight maintenance depot project. The proposed facility was among the major railway infrastructure projects discussed during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister reiterated the importance of accelerating railway connectivity and infrastructure development across Telangana. Minister Vivek Venkatswamy attended the meeting along with Members of Parliament and senior officials.
The delegation also included MPs Anil Kumar Yadav, Mallu Ravi, Balram Naik, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Gaddam Vamsi Krishna. Vem Narender Reddy and Telangana government’s Special Representative in New Delhi, A.P. Jithender Reddy, also participated in the discussions.
