Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha criticised the Congress over its candidates for two upcoming Telangana graduate MLC polls. She alleged that awarding both seats to candidates from the Reddy community amounted to social injustice.
The Congress had announced Sama Ram Mohan Reddy as its candidate for the Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduate MLC constituency. Similarly, the party named Ramireddy Sarvotham Reddy for the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduate MLC seat.
Both nominees belong to the Reddy community. As a result, the decision became a subject of political discussion after the Congress announced the candidates.
Kavitha raised the issue in a social media post. She questioned whether giving tickets to Reddy leaders in both graduate MLC seats amounted to complete social injustice.
She said the ruling party had a responsibility to provide adequate representation to weaker sections in a democracy. At the same time, Kavitha said giving preference to a single social group was against Telangana’s self-respect.
Telangana graduate MLC polls and social representation
The selection of the two candidates became the focus of Kavitha’s criticism. She specifically pointed to their community background and questioned the representation available to weaker sections.
For Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad, the Congress selected Sama Ram Mohan Reddy. Meanwhile, Ramireddy Sarvotham Reddy was chosen for the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal constituency.
Kavitha’s remarks added the issue of social representation to the political discussion around the Telangana graduate MLC polls. She maintained that parties in power should ensure representation for weaker sections.
Her criticism centred on the Congress decision to field candidates from the same social community in both graduate MLC constituencies.
