Congress names Sama Rammohan Reddy, Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy for Telangana graduates’ MLC seats
Hyderabad: Congress MLC candidates Sama Rammohan Reddy and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy will contest the forthcoming Telangana Legislative Council elections from the Graduates’ Constituencies.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved their nominations. The All India Congress Committee announced the decision in a press release signed by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on September 29.
Rammohan Reddy will contest from the Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ Constituency. Sarvotham Reddy will contest from the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduates’ Constituency.
Rammohan Reddy previously served as chairman of the TPCC Media and Communications Department. He also worked as an official spokesperson of the Telangana Congress.
According to his profile, he joined the Congress in 2003 as an active member of the National Students’ Union of India. He holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and an LLB. He is also a High Court advocate.
His organisational roles included general secretary of the Ranga Reddy District Congress Committee. He also served as general secretary of the Telangana Indian Youth Congress.
Later, he became the national spokesperson of the Indian Youth Congress. In 2017, he became vice-chairman of the State Legal Cell.
Since 2019, Rammohan Reddy has served as a PCC official spokesperson. He became chairman of the TPCC Media and Communications Department in 2024.
His profile states that he appeared in more than 2,500 prime-time television debates and media programmes. It also says he led grassroots agitations against the BRS government.
According to the profile, he worked in the party’s election war rooms and media campaigns during the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections. He also contributed to the Telangana Congress campaign in 2023.
Congress MLC candidates bring different organisational backgrounds
Rammohan Reddy’s profile describes him as an on-ground coordinator at Gandhi Bhavan. It credits him with developing a media and communications structure across Telangana.
Earlier, he had sought the Congress nomination for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency. His profile states that the party did not select him due to strategic considerations and internal political factors.
In his MLC nomination application, Rammohan Reddy said he wanted to strengthen links between the Congress and the public. He also said he would focus on grassroots leaders and issues such as corruption, unemployment and social justice.
His application said he would use his legal and public advocacy experience in the Legislative Council. He also referred to strengthening party communication among urban and rural audiences, particularly young people.
Sarvotham Reddy’s political and professional background
Sarvotham Reddy has been associated with the Congress since 2012. He serves as an AICC member and PCC member in Telangana.
His profile states that he has more than 14 years of organisational and political experience. He coordinates Congress activities in the Suryapet Assembly Constituency and district-level programmes.
Sarvotham Reddy was among the contenders for the Congress parliamentary ticket from Bhongir in 2014, 2019 and 2024, according to his profile.
He is the son of former Cabinet Minister and five-term MLA Ramreddy Damodar Reddy. He is also the nephew of former Cabinet Minister and five-term MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy.
The profile describes the family as having a four-generation association with the Congress. It says his political work focuses on youth participation, grassroots involvement and organisational development.
Sarvotham Reddy holds an MBA and an MIM from Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University. He also holds a B.E. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Osmania University.
His profile states that he was a gold medallist and ranked among the top one per cent in his 10th, 12th, B.E. and MBA programmes.
From 2002 to 2012, he worked at Capital One Financial Services. His roles covered business analysis, credit risk, marketing and operations.
Since 2012, Sarvotham Reddy has worked as a farmer and entrepreneur. His activities include agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture and dairy.
His business interests also include solar energy, diesel generators, electrical equipment, hospitality, commercial rentals and construction materials. He speaks Telugu, English and Hindi.
