Kavitha alleges police lathi-charge during Boduppal land protest

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed during the Boduppal land protest after police detained Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha and hundreds of protesters on Wednesday. The agitation sought the implementation of the Congress government’s promise to allot 250 square yards of land to Telangana movement activists.

Police later shifted Kavitha, party leaders, workers and Telangana activists to Bollaram Police Station. Kavitha alleged that police resorted to indiscriminate lathi-charge during the protest and claimed several women and activists suffered injuries.

Boduppal land protest sparks political row

Speaking to reporters at Bollaram Police Station, Kavitha criticised the Congress government over the police action. She alleged that police assaulted women protesters without restraint and questioned the use of force against them.

Further, Kavitha said the protesters had only demanded the implementation of the Congress party’s election promise to allot 250 square yards of land to Telangana movement activists. She maintained that the protest did not include any other demands.

Meanwhile, Kavitha questioned whether attacking protesters for seeking the fulfilment of election promises reflected democratic governance. She warned that the “countdown” for the Congress government had begun.

Additionally, she said Telangana Rakshana Sena would continue reminding the government of every promise made to Telangana movement activists. She asserted that the party would not withdraw its agitation until the government fulfilled those commitments.
