H-NEW busts Speed Post ganja syndicate, arrests alleged mastermind

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) on Thursday busted an alleged Speed Post ganja syndicate that used postal and courier services to distribute cannabis across nearly 21 states. Police arrested the alleged mastermind, Satyam Misra of Jharkhand, while four other accused remain absconding.

Police identified the absconding accused as Shubham Misra alias Shubham Dada alias Bhaiya, Rahul Jha alias Chote Misra, Sachin Misra and Santosh Pandit. According to investigators, the syndicate accepted orders through WhatsApp and collected payments through UPI.

Speed Post ganja syndicate used courier network

Police alleged that the gang dispatched between 80 and 100 orders every day. These included eight to 10 Speed Post consignments. Investigators said the accused falsely declared the parcels as medicines to avoid detection.

According to police, the syndicate earned between ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh every month. They estimated its annual turnover at nearly ₹5 crore.

The investigation began after H-NEW intercepted a parcel containing ganja that was sent from Jharkhand to Hyderabad. Subsequently, police arrested two Hyderabad-based buyers, Sushanth Vyas and Laddu, and seized two kilograms of ganja.

Investigators also uncovered a Mumbai distribution network that allegedly served more than 1,000 regular consumers. They said the accused used coded words such as “Mango”, “Stick” and “Flower” during drug transactions.

Speed Post ganja syndicate exposed security gaps

Police said the investigation exposed alleged gaps in parcel screening, with narcotics reportedly transported through trains and flights without mandatory scanning. Therefore, Hyderabad City Police will recommend stricter screening procedures for postal consignments to the concerned Central authorities.

Investigators also alleged that the syndicate laundered drug proceeds through multiple bank accounts and UPI IDs, including accounts belonging to family members. They further alleged that the accused invested the proceeds in gold and luxury vehicles.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police directed courier agencies to scan all parcels before dispatch. They also urged citizens to report suspicious deliveries through Dial 100 or the H-NEW helpline.

Commissioner of Police V.C. Sajjanar commended the 22-member H-NEW team led by DCP Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath for cracking the case.
