Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) rejected the proposed name Telangana Rakshana Sena for Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s newly floated political party and directed her to submit three alternative names within 15 days.
According to the ECI’s communication, the acronym “TRS” cannot be retained after the commission received objections claiming it could create public confusion because of its long-standing association with the State’s regional political movement.
The commission warned that failure to suggest alternative names within the stipulated period would result in the rejection of the party’s registration application.
Kavitha to challenge Telangana Rakshana Sena decision
Responding to the ECI’s directive, Kavitha confirmed that she had received the commission’s letter. She said her team had already addressed two objections raised by the panel.
However, Kavitha said her party would not submit alternative names despite the commission’s direction. Instead, she announced that the party would challenge the order in court to retain the Telangana Rakshana Sena name.
The development marks a setback for Kavitha’s efforts to register her new political outfit, with the dispute over the proposed name now likely to move to the courts.
