Hyderabad: A Malkapur pond drowning claimed the lives of two college students after they entered deep water at Malkapur Pond in Kondapur Mandal of Sangareddy district on Sunday, police said. Sub-Inspector Someswari said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway.
According to the police, Satish (17), Prashanth (19), Prabhakar, Sudhakar and Raghavendar, all students of Tara Degree College in Sangareddy, visited Malkapur Pond on Sunday evening. While Sudhakar remained on the bank taking photographs, the other four entered the water.
As the group moved into a deeper section of the pond, Satish and Prashanth drowned. Prabhakar and Raghavendar managed to swim back to safety and alerted others about the incident.
Rescue operation follows Malkapur pond drowning
After receiving information, police rushed to the spot and deployed divers to retrieve the two students from the pond. They were shifted to the government hospital, where doctors examined them and declared them dead.
The incident has left the victims’ families and fellow students in shock. Police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Malkapur pond drowning, Sub-Inspector Someswari said.
