Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force busted an illegal wildlife hunting gang and arrested six persons involved in poaching in forest areas near Hyderabad.
The Golconda team, along with the forest department, conducted a joint operation in Shadnagar and Makthal forest areas. They seized four airguns, one licensed rifle with 20 live rounds, a Scorpio car, and other equipment.
The accused used airguns to hunt deer, peacock, rabbits, quail, and doves. They also recorded hunting videos on mobile phones.
Illegal wildlife hunting racket exposed
Police identified the accused as Mohd Muzzaffar Hussain, Mir Ahmed Amir, Abdullah bin Sahain, Saud bin Mohd Balab, Masood bin Mohd, and K. Shekar.
Investigators said the group operated for over a year. They frequently visited forest areas to hunt wild animals and consumed the meat.
Mir Ahmed Amir, a professional shooter, possessed a licensed rifle. Meanwhile, K. Shekar guided the group to locations with wildlife.
The gang used a Scorpio vehicle to transport weapons and reach forest zones. They disposed of animal remains in nearby canals after hunting.
Further probe into illegal wildlife hunting
Officials recovered eight mobile phones and airgun pellets from the accused. The phones contained videos and images of hunting activities.
During questioning, the accused admitted to hunting several animals on different dates in 2025 and 2026.
Subsequently, police handed over the accused to the Forest Range Officer, Hyderabad East Range, for further action.
Authorities registered a case under provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The case includes offences related to hunting and possession of wildlife.
The operation took place under the supervision of Additional DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao. Task Force officials said further investigation is underway.
