Hyderabad: Drinking water wastage attracted a ₹5,000 penalty after the Hyderabad Water Board found a consumer using potable water to wash the premises of a building on Road No. 33 in Jubilee Hills.
Officials of the Water Board’s O&M Division-6 conducted a field inspection after detecting the misuse. They issued a notice to the consumer and directed payment of the fine within seven days of receiving it.
Drinking water wastage may invite disconnection
Further, the Water Board said Sections 38 and 39 of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Act, 1989 require consumers to use water responsibly. It said authorised officials have the power to inspect premises to identify misuse.
Meanwhile, the board warned that any repeat violation would invite action under Section 42. Officials could disconnect drinking water and sewerage connections and initiate further action.
Additionally, the Water Board urged the public not to use drinking water for washing vehicles, roads or building premises. It appealed to residents to conserve water and use it responsibly.
