Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday paid homage to the Hyderabad Liberation heroes who sacrificed their lives during the liberation struggle. He said their sacrifice, courage and spirit of struggle would continue to inspire generations. The Governor also remembered the freedom fighters who participated in the movement.
Shukla attended the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad. Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan also participated in the programme. The Governor said the people of the erstwhile Hyderabad State attained freedom on September 17, 1948. Subsequently, the State became part of the Indian Union.
He described the Hyderabad Liberation struggle as an important chapter in the history of India’s freedom movement. He also recalled the sacrifices made by farmers, youth and women during the struggle.

Shukla paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his decisive role in integrating Hyderabad State with the Indian Union. The Governor said Liberation Day was not merely an occasion to remember a historic event. Instead, he said, the occasion provided an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to unity, integrity and democratic values.
He called on people to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the Hyderabad Liberation heroes. He also urged citizens to contribute towards building a strong, prosperous and developed Telangana.
Earlier in the day, Shukla received Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan at Begumpet Airport. Radhakrishnan arrived in Hyderabad to attend the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations. After the programme, the Governor also accorded a grand farewell to the Vice-President.
