Hyderabad: A CPI drought inspection team will tour Nagar Kurnool district on the 4th to assess severe drought conditions and press the Telangana government for immediate relief, CPI district secretary SMD Fayaz said on Monday.
In a statement, Fayaz said the State government had declared 13 districts as drought-affected. However, he said, severe drought conditions had also gripped Nagar Kurnool district. The CPI drought inspection was intended to document the situation and build pressure on the government to provide special relief packages to affected areas.
Fayaz said the district had several major irrigation projects. However, successive governments had failed to ensure their proper utilisation, leaving the district in the grip of drought.
CPI drought inspection to include national and state leaders
The team will be led by CPI national secretary and former MLA Palla Venkata Reddy. M Bala Narasimha, a member of the CPI state secretariat, will also take part in the visit.
Other CPI state leaders will join the team. District-level representatives of the farmers’ association, agricultural workers’ association and other people’s organisations will also participate.
Fayaz said members of the CPI district executive and district council would be part of the inspection. The team will visit drought-hit areas in Nagar Kurnool district on the 4th.
