Hyderabad: More than 15,000 Congress leaders and workers from Telangana attended the ‘Vote Bachao – Desh Bachao’ rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud led the mobilisation with the support of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The Telangana Congress rally formed part of the Congress-led INDIA alliance’s campaign to protect democracy and voting rights. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge guided the meeting, while senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi led the national-level participation. The gathering drew supporters from several parts of the country.
The meeting focused on concerns raised by the Congress over the Election Commission’s functioning and alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. The party sought greater transparency in the electoral process.
The Telangana unit faced transport hurdles before the meeting. Railway authorities reportedly refused permission for special trains at the last minute. However, party workers continued with their travel plans and reached Delhi by buses, regular trains, cars and flights.
Telangana Congress rally sees extensive travel and logistical arrangements
The TPCC coordinated transport and other arrangements under Mahesh Kumar Goud’s leadership, with support from Revanth Reddy. More than 100 buses, along with private vehicles and flights, carried participants to Delhi. Workers also used regular train services from Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.
The party arranged more than 800 rented hotel rooms for the visiting leaders and cadres. It also organised food, medical assistance, accommodation and transport facilities. Some participants stayed at the residences of party leaders in Delhi.
Revanth Reddy, Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers, MPs, MLCs and MLAs attended the rally. District Congress Committee presidents, PCC office-bearers, corporation chairpersons and leaders of affiliated organisations also took part. Party spokespersons and grassroots workers joined the gathering.
Congress leaders said the mobilisation reflected the organisational coordination of the Telangana unit. They also said the party had extended arrangements to cover protocol and other logistical needs during the visit.
Millions of people in Telangana who could not travel to Delhi watched the meeting at different locations across the State, according to the party. This extended the rally’s reach to towns and villages.
The Telangana Congress reiterated its support for the campaign led by Rahul Gandhi to protect voting rights. Party leaders said the State unit would continue to participate in the national movement for democratic institutions and transparency in elections.
