Hyderabad: The Murusu cyclone over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy rainfall to several parts of Telangana from November 3 to 5. Four southern districts face the possibility of intense downpours. Weather reports indicated a 95 per cent likelihood of the forecast materialising.
Officials expected the cyclone’s impact to peak between the afternoon of November 3 and midnight on November 4. Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet and Wanaparthy districts could receive between 100 mm and 130 mm of rain.
The Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert for these districts. Authorities stepped up their preparedness because heavy rain could inundate low-lying areas.
Murusu cyclone likely to affect Hyderabad and northern districts
Hyderabad and its surrounding districts could receive moderate rainfall. In contrast, northern Telangana was likely to get light showers.
On November 2, eastern, southern and central Telangana were likely to receive moderate rain. Other parts of the State could experience light showers.
However, the cyclone’s influence was expected to weaken gradually. Consequently, rainfall across Telangana was likely to decline considerably after November 6.
The next three days could also bring thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Therefore, disaster management officials advised farmers to move their harvested produce to safer locations.
Officials also urged residents to take precautions while travelling. They asked people to plan their journeys carefully during the period of adverse weather.
