Hyderabad: The Warangal ITI revival has gained momentum with major funding for a new building and upgraded technical facilities. The state government sanctioned Rs. 25 crore, while Rs. 40 crore was allocated under the PM Setu scheme.
The Government Industrial Training Institute on Mulugu Road has served youth from the erstwhile Warangal district and surrounding areas for decades. However, its old building has deteriorated after years of inadequate maintenance.
Now, the institution is set for a major infrastructure upgrade. A new building, modern equipment and improved facilities are expected to strengthen technical training for unemployed youth.
Three advanced technology centres have already been constructed on the Mulugu Road premises. In addition, the new investment will provide further infrastructure and equipment for the ITI.
The institute has trained thousands of young people during its long history. With the planned upgrades, students and staff are expected to receive improved facilities for technical education.
The Government ITI currently offers several technical trades.
These include electrician, fitter, turner, machinist, motor vehicle mechanic and draftsman civil.
Other trades include diesel mechanic, welder and COPA. At present, around 620 students are undergoing training at the institution.
The existing building has faced serious deterioration over the years. Its walls, windows and classroom doors have suffered damage due to the lack of basic repairs.
As a result, students and staff have continued their training in the ageing structure. Officials at the institute had reportedly raised the building’s condition with the government several times.
However, the issue remained unresolved for years. The latest funding decisions have now opened the way for construction and infrastructure improvements.
The Government ITI building was originally constructed in 1959 on Mulugu Road, Warangal. It was established to provide technical training and employment opportunities to unemployed youth.
The structure was designed with an expected lifespan of about 50 years. It has now completed 67 years, while prolonged use has contributed to its deteriorating condition.
Warangal ITI revival gets new building and modern equipment
The state government recently issued orders sanctioning Rs. 25 crore through the Department of Skill Human Capital and Knowledge Training Initiatives, referred to as ‘Shakti’. The funds will support construction of a G+1 building for the institute.
The project will also include water supply, sanitation, electrification and furniture. Other infrastructure required for the management of the ITI will also be provided through the sanctioned funds.
Principal Chander had sought attention to the condition of the institute. Local MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy subsequently raised the issue with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Meanwhile, Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya secured an opportunity for the institute under PM Setu. The scheme stands for Prime Minister’s Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs.
Under PM Setu, Rs. 40 crore has been sanctioned specifically for Warangal ITI.
The funding will support machinery, equipment, trade upgrades and workshop renovation.
The scheme includes three clusters in the state. Vikarabad, Panjagutta and Nalgonda have been selected as ITI spokes, along with Hyderabad Old City Hub.
The Old City Hub has received an allocation of Rs. 80 crore. Each of the other spoke ITIs has been allocated Rs. 40 crore under the scheme.
Warangal ITI will use its Rs. 40 crore allocation for upgrading machinery and equipment. The funds will also support trade modernisation and renovation of workshops.
The construction work for the new ITI building is currently at the tender stage. Meanwhile, the PM Setu funds are expected to facilitate the installation of upgraded equipment.
Together, the state and central allocations amount to Rs. 65 crore for the institute’s infrastructure and technical upgrades. The investment is expected to significantly change the appearance and facilities of the Government ITI.
The Warangal ITI revival is being pursued through the efforts of the local MLA and MP.
Students and staff have welcomed the sanction of funds for the long-awaited improvements.
Once the construction and equipment upgrades are completed, the institute will have a new building and modern technical facilities. The improvements are also expected to support better training opportunities for the youth.
The upgraded ITI could provide students with access to improved machinery, renovated workshops and modernised trades. The development is expected to strengthen the institute’s role in providing technical skills and employment opportunities.
Officials and students are now awaiting the completion of the proposed works. The transformation will depend on the progress of construction, equipment installation and other planned infrastructure works.
