47 complaints filed with HYDRAA over park, lake encroachments and civic violations

Hyderabad: HYDRAA, the civic grievance platform, received 47 complaints on Monday as residents raised alarms over illegal constructions, park encroachments, and lake flooding in Hyderabad and surrounding districts.

Locals report misuse of parks and open plots

Residents in many areas complained that public parks are slowly turning into business zones. They pointed to unauthorised temples, sheds, and rental spaces cropping up on land meant for public use. Many asked officials to fence off park areas to stop further misuse.

In Macha Bollaram (Medchal–Malkajgiri district), members of the Balaji Enclave Residential Welfare Association said land in Survey No. 188 was under encroachment. They asked the government to reserve the land for a primary school, which would benefit over 60 colonies with 60,000 residents.

In Raviryala (Maheshwaram mandal), residents of the Telangana Housing Board Colony said illegal occupants were taking over vacant plots. They reported blocked roads, rented sheds, and temples coming up inside park space.

In Musheerabad’s Baghlingampally division, locals said a 1,300-square-yard park for children had turned into a cluster of steel shops and garages. Despite complaints to the GHMC and Housing Board, they said no action had been taken.

Flooding fears grow around expanding lakes

Residents from Ameenpur (Sangareddy district) and Raviryala (Rangareddy district) said lake waters were rising every year and flooding nearby homes. They blamed it on closed drainage points and raised overflow systems. They urged officials to reopen old water outlets and lower the overflow height to reduce risk.

In Ameenpur, residents showed how electric poles and roads had sunk under water. They demanded a scientific study to fix the lake’s real boundaries.

In Old Alwal (Survey No. 576), Gang Avenue residents said sewage was collecting in old quarry pits and creating a foul smell. They asked the civic body to fill the pits with soil and develop a park instead.

HYDRAA begins follow-up action

HYDRAA Additional Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar reviewed the complaints and passed them to the relevant departments. He assured residents that follow-up action is already underway.
