Hyderabad: The city witnessed a massive turnout for Fit India Sundays. Thousands of citizens took to the streets on cycles during the 57th edition of the nationwide fitness initiative. The event was organised by the Union Sports Ministry in association with the Sports Authority of India.
The event turned into a fitness carnival, combining sport, culture and community participation. People from all age groups, including children, youth, older citizens, athletes and families, participated in the cycling drive. The drive was held across designated routes in the city.
Launched in December 2024 under the guidance of Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a nationwide public movement. The initiative has recorded participation from over 22 lakh citizens. Participation has occurred across more than 2 lakh locations.
The programme aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz.” In addition, it aims to tackle obesity while encouraging sustainable and low-carbon lifestyles.
Dignitaries join Hyderabad Fit India Sundays event
The Hyderabad edition was attended by Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, Sports Authority of Telangana chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, badminton coach and Dronacharya awardee Pullela Gopichand, Arjuna Award-winning shooter Esha Singh, and Paralympic bronze medallist Deepthi Jeevanji.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh Reddy and several athletes, Fit India ambassadors, champions and cycling leaders were felicitated for promoting fitness awareness.
Speaking at the event, Kishan Reddy said initiatives such as Fit India Sundays reflected the Prime Minister’s emphasis on making fitness a part of everyday life. He said modern lifestyles had reduced physical activity and contributed to rising obesity and mental stress. Therefore, regular movement is essential.
Pullela Gopichand stressed that consistent physical activity was key to both sporting excellence and disciplined living. As part of the programme, Deepthi Jeevanji and Esha Singh flagged off the cycling rally.
Hundreds of cyclists rode together amid music and cheers before returning to the venue. There, Zumba cooldown sessions, cultural performances, and interactive activities continued, keeping the venue active and engaged throughout the morning.
