Harish Rao slams Congress, calls Speaker’s ruling a blow to Constitution

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA T. Harish Rao on Wednesday criticised the Assembly Speaker’s ruling on the disqualification of defected MLAs, calling it a direct attack on the Constitution. He accused the Congress of political hypocrisy and undermining democratic institutions in Telangana.

Harish Rao said the ruling, which rejected disqualification pleas against MLAs who joined the Congress after contesting on BRS tickets, violated clear anti-defection rules. “This is a mockery of the Constitution and a permanent stain on democracy,” he stated.

He also questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s slogan of “Save the Constitution,” asking whether it applied only in Delhi and not in Telangana. According to him, the Speaker’s decision exposed the party’s double standards.

Speaker’s ruling on defected MLAs draws sharp reaction from BRS

The BRS leader alleged that the Revanth Reddy-led government was using the Speaker’s office for political convenience. He claimed that by shielding defectors, the Congress had shown disregard for the spirit of the Constitution.

Calling the episode shameful, Harish Rao said ignoring anti-defection provisions for short-term political gain would damage democratic norms. He warned that such actions weaken the public’s faith in constitutional processes.
