Harish Rao demands compensation for Dalit workers killed in Karnataka accident

Hyderabad: Former Minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for Dalit workers’ families following a fatal road accident in Karnataka. Two agricultural labourers from Induvasi village in Gadwal district died in the accident in Karnataka’s Yadgir district. Several others suffered serious injuries.

Harish Rao, the BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader, visited Induvasi village in Gattu mandal and consoled the bereaved families. He also met injured workers and assured them of support from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Acting on instructions from BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao, he provided immediate financial assistance to the affected families. The assistance covered the families of deceased workers Asepu and Naganna, along with those injured in the accident.

Harish Rao seeks compensation for Dalit workers

Harish Rao demanded that the state government announce Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the two deceased workers. He also sought free medical treatment and financial assistance for workers who sustained serious injuries.

According to him, around 40 Dalit families from Induvasi had migrated to Karnataka in search of daily-wage employment. However, the road accident claimed two lives and left several workers with serious injuries. Some suffered fractures to their arms, legs and backs.

Meanwhile, Harish Rao criticised the government’s response to the incident. He alleged that the district administration had failed to provide adequate assistance. He also accused two Ministers from the district of failing to support the affected families.

Furthermore, the BRS leader said injured workers were struggling to meet their medical expenses. He demanded immediate government intervention and financial support for the victims.

“This is the Chief Minister’s own district. When poor Dalit families are forced to migrate in search of work and meet with such a tragic accident, the government must stand by them. The families should not be left to face this crisis on their own,” he said. Harish Rao reiterated his demand for compensation for Dalit workers and medical assistance for those injured in the accident.
