Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao accused the Congress of creating fake social media accounts to target Opposition parties.
Accordingly, he criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for referring to posts from an alleged fake account in the Assembly. He said the incident reflected a serious misuse of social media.
Meanwhile, Harish Rao alleged that Congress handlers operated the fake account named ‘Sandhya Rao’. The account had recently triggered controversy on social media, he said.
According to the BRS leader, the Chief Minister relied on comments from the account and misled the Assembly. Therefore, he demanded that Revanth Reddy apologise unconditionally to the House and the people.
Congress fake accounts face demand for immediate probe
Furthermore, Harish Rao demanded an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the ‘Sandhya Rao’ account. He also sought the arrest of those allegedly operating it.
The former minister said he would issue a breach of privilege notice against the Chief Minister over the alleged misleading of the Assembly. In addition, he said the BRS would approach the police with a formal complaint.
According to Harish Rao, the complaint would cover the alleged fake account and the related defamation issue. Meanwhile, he demanded accountability for those responsible for the social media activity.
The BRS leader also criticised Congress leaders for allegedly using such accounts to attack political opponents. Finally, he called for action after authorities establish the identity of those behind the account.
