Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone Team, Hyderabad, arrested a gym trainer for illegally procuring and selling steroid injections without a valid license or medical prescription. This action was part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal steroid sale in the city. Officials seized injections worth ₹1.2 lakh from his possession.
Accused had prior cases, sold steroids to youth
The accused, Rashid Matlub Khan (40), a resident of Natraj Nagar, Jhirra, Hyderabad, and a gym trainer by profession, allegedly sold Mephentermine Sulphate injections to clients seeking rapid muscle growth. Police believe this case is a clear example of illegal steroid sale targeting vulnerable youth. Acting on credible information, the Task Force apprehended him near his residence while he was carrying 100 vials of the injectable drug.
During interrogation, Khan confessed to sourcing the steroids through a courier from Indian Mart in Surat, using his wife Farzana Begum’s name. He then sold them to customers at inflated rates, furthering the illegal steroid sale operation.
Police revealed that Khan had previously been involved in other criminal cases, including:
- Cr. No. 256/2024 of Abids Road PS under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
- Cr. No. 86/2024 of Tappachabutra PS under Sections 420 and 336 of the IPC
- He was also absconding in Cr. No. 102/2026 of Attapur PS
Police warn against misuse of steroids
Authorities warned that unauthorized use of steroids poses serious health risks, particularly among youth seeking fast muscle gain. In addition, the illegal steroid sale may contribute to growing addiction and health complications due to misuse. The injections, also used in treating low blood pressure, have led to growing addiction and health complications due to misuse.
Those who had purchased and used the drugs were counselled and advised to consult qualified doctors for further medical guidance. The arrest was carried out under the supervision of Inspector Ch. Yadender and SI Md. Jahed of the West Zone Task Force.
