Hyderabad: A Vattepally auto driver died after an assault following a dispute over Rs 10 change for an auto fare in Vattepally under Rajendranagar police station limits on Sunday evening.
Mohammed Mukarram, 42, lived in the Vattepally area and worked as an auto driver. An argument reportedly began over the Rs 10 change linked to the fare.
The dispute soon turned violent, with some people allegedly attacking Mukarram. He suffered serious injuries and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Rajendranagar police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. They shifted the body for post-mortem examination and registered a case.
Vattepally auto driver assault under police investigation
During the preliminary inquiry, police reportedly found evidence pointing to a YouTuber named Azeem and another person, Shoaib, in connection with the assault. Investigators were examining their alleged roles in the incident.
Police had not officially disclosed whether anyone had been arrested. Officials were also yet to provide further details about the circumstances that led to the fatal assault.
After learning about the incident, Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen visited the area and met Mukarram’s family. He alleged that Azeem, Shoaib and some of their associates were creating fear in Vattepally.
Mubeen also claimed that the incident marked the second murder on the same road within a month. He urged the Rajendranagar DCP and Hyderabad Police Commissioner to act against all those responsible.
The MLA further called for increased police patrolling in the area. He said he would support Mukarram’s family until they received justice.
Meanwhile, Rajendranagar police continued investigating the assault and the circumstances surrounding the Vattepally auto driver’s death. Further details on arrests and the exact sequence of events were awaited.
