Hyderabad: Police authorities finalised police station boundaries across Greater Hyderabad after the recent reorganisation of city commissionerates. The exercise brought 146 police stations under four administrative units.
Following the changes, policing in Greater Hyderabad now comes under Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and the newly formed Future City Police Commissionerates. Officials said several police stations shifted between commissionerates, while a few moved into the Future City setup.
As part of the reorganisation, eight police stations shifted from the Hyderabad Commissionerate to Malkajgiri. Meanwhile, nine stations from Cyberabad and Malkajgiri joined the Future City Commissionerate. Police also created a new Badangpet police station, while the Market police station was removed.
Authorities renamed some zones and ACP divisions as well. They also changed the limits of several police stations. As a result, one or two stations merged or ceased to exist.
Greater Hyderabad policing is now split across four commissionerates
The Future City Police Commissionerate now operates with four DCP zones, six ACP divisions and 22 police stations. These areas include parts of Rangareddy rural, such as Maheshwaram, Moinabad and Shadnagar.
The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate now has four zones, 10 ACP divisions and 30 police stations. Officials created new DCP zones at Begumpet and Uppal under this structure.
The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate functions with three DCP zones, seven ACP divisions and 22 police stations. Four police stations from the Sangareddy district were added to its limits.
The Hyderabad Police Commissionerate remains the largest in Greater Hyderabad. It has seven zones, 26 ACP divisions and 73 police stations. Its jurisdiction covers areas including Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad, Secunderabad and Rajendranagar.
Police officials said the Greater Hyderabad reorganisation aimed to improve efficiency and response time. They added that transfers of DCPs, ACPs and inspectors were likely soon to match the new boundaries.
