Chief Secretary directs gram sabhas and ward sabhas from June 4

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao directed district collectors to organise gram sabhas and ward sabhas across Telangana on June 4, 6, 8 and 10 to strengthen public participation and awareness on key government initiatives.

The Chief Secretary issued the instructions during a video conference with district collectors on Tuesday while reviewing arrangements for the 99-Day Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika programme and Environment Week activities.

Ramakrishna Rao said the government would use gram sabhas and ward sabhas as platforms to educate citizens about governance, development and public welfare initiatives.

He informed officials that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had directed the administration to conduct the meetings in all villages and urban wards across the state.

Gram sabhas and ward sabhas to focus on awareness

The Chief Secretary instructed district administrations to create awareness about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being conducted under the directions of the Election Commission of India.

He asked officials to explain the voter list revision process and encourage public participation in updating electoral records.

Ramakrishna Rao also directed collectors to educate farmers about crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices. In addition, he asked officials to spread awareness on monsoon preparedness and precautionary measures during the rainy season.

The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of preventing water stagnation and promoting plantation activities. He also instructed officials to create awareness about Solid Waste Management Rules and encourage community participation in environmental protection.

He clarified that these activities would complement the thematic programmes already being implemented under the 99-Day Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika.

Ramakrishna Rao further directed officials to ensure coordination among departments for effective outreach and greater public participation.

He asked district collectors to involve public representatives, Self-Help Group members, community leaders and other stakeholders so that awareness campaigns reach every household.

Director General of Police C.V. Anand also participated in the review meeting. He emphasised close coordination between the police and other government departments for the smooth implementation of public programmes.
