Hyderabad: The Telangana government renamed Sanath Nagar TIMS as the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences, Sanathnagar, honouring former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and separate Telangana movement leader Dr. Marri Channa Reddy.
The government issued the renaming order on the occasion of Dr. Channa Reddy’s birth centenary. Accordingly, the hospital will function under its new name.
The previous BRS government began constructing the super-specialty hospital across 53 acres at an estimated cost of ₹882 crore. It launched the project to decentralise medical services across Greater Hyderabad.
Sanath Nagar TIMS to function under new name
The government planned the project to reduce the patient burden on Gandhi Hospital, Osmania Hospital, and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). In addition, it aims to provide corporate-standard medical care free of cost to poor patients.
The government said it renamed the institution to recognise Dr. Marri Channa Reddy’s distinguished contribution to public life. Meanwhile, officials are developing the hospital into a Centre of Excellence.
The Centre of Excellence will provide advanced medical services, including cardiac treatment and organ transplantation. Once officials complete the upgrade, the institution will expand access to specialised healthcare in Hyderabad.
