Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla urged universities to pursue higher education reforms and strengthen research, innovation and knowledge creation.
He said universities must regularly update their academic systems to meet changing demands. Technological advances, new skill requirements and global developments should guide these changes.
Shukla made the remarks at Lok Bhavan on Saturday. He was speaking after releasing Volume-II, Issue-1 of the Telangana Journal of Higher Education (TJHE).
The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) publishes the journal.
The latest edition carries the theme “Universities in the twenty-first century: Renewal, Reforms and Roadmaps”. It seeks to encourage research-based discussion on current challenges and opportunities in higher education.
The Governor stressed the need for interdisciplinary education, research and innovation. He also called for stronger international academic collaborations.
Higher education reforms to support knowledge exchange
Shukla said platforms such as TJHE could promote knowledge exchange among researchers, faculty members, educationists and policymakers.
He added that such exchanges could also support informed policy-making.
Furthermore, the Governor called on universities to give greater priority to research and innovation. He said institutions must prepare students for rapidly changing future demands.
On the occasion, Shukla greeted teachers on National Teachers’ Day. He recognised their contribution to nation-building and to shaping future generations.
He also appreciated TGCHE Chairman Prof. V. Balakista Reddy for promoting research culture and academic excellence in Telangana.
Prof. Reddy subsequently briefed the Governor about REACH-2026. The research and innovation conclave will take place in Hyderabad on September 26.

The discussion also covered efforts to strengthen research and innovation in the State.
Earlier, SKLTGHU Vice-Chancellor Dr. D. Raji Reddy met the Governor at Lok Bhavan.
Padma Shri awardee Dr. P. Raghu Ram also called on Shukla at Lok Bhavan.
The Governor’s remarks came during the release of the latest issue of TJHE, which focuses on renewal, reforms and future roadmaps for universities.
