Fire safety violations found at Chandralok Complex in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Fire Services officials detected fire safety violations at Chandralok Complex in Secunderabad and issued notices to the building management. They warned that authorities would initiate legal action if the deficiencies were not rectified within the stipulated time.

The inspection took place under the supervision of the Secunderabad Fire Brigade on the directions of Director General of Fire Services Vikram Singh Mann. District Fire Officer Sreedas led the inspection. Assistant District Fire Officer Prabhakar Reddy and Station Fire Officer Shankar also participated.

Officials found that the building did not meet even the minimum fire safety requirements. Further, they noted that the nearly 50-year-old structure had fallen into a dilapidated condition. Portions of the building showed signs of deterioration, and plaster had peeled off in several places.

Fire safety violations include structural and electrical hazards

Additionally, officials found outdated electrical wiring in the building. They said they would refer the matter to the Electricity Department for necessary action. The Fire Services Department will also inform the GHMC about the condition of the building for appropriate action.

Officials also found that the staircases were too narrow for safe evacuation during emergencies. Moreover, the building lacked the required setback space. As a result, fire engines and rescue personnel could face difficulties during firefighting and rescue operations.

Finally, officials said recent fire incidents in the Secunderabad region highlighted the need for strict compliance with safety norms. They said negligence posed a serious risk to public safety. The Fire Services Department added that it would continue conducting regular inspections across Telangana to improve compliance with fire safety standards.
