Hyderabad: Cyber criminals are targeting mobile users through fake wedding invitation APK files shared on WhatsApp, SMS and other messaging platforms.
Fraudsters are sending files named “Marriage Invitation.apk” and “Wedding Card.apk” to trick people into installing malicious applications on their phones.
Officials warned that the malware can steal contacts, photos, SMS messages and personal information from infected devices.

Cyber experts said the malicious apps can also access banking applications, read OTP messages and remotely control mobile phones.
Officials warned that infected devices may automatically spread the same scam to other contacts.
Users were advised not to install APK files received through WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS or unknown links.
Officials asked people to download applications only from official app stores and verify suspicious files with senders before opening them.
They also advised users to keep mobile security updates enabled and use antivirus applications for protection.
Cyber experts said people who accidentally installed such apps should immediately disconnect internet services, uninstall suspicious applications and change passwords.
Officials also advised victims to check bank transactions and report cyber fraud through helpline number 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Portal.
