Hyderabad Police warn public against downloading unknown APK files

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crimes Unit of Hyderabad Police cautioned the public against downloading and installing unknown APK files, warning that such files can expose users to fraud and data theft.

Officials said cybercriminals often use fake APK files to gain access to sensitive information stored on mobile devices.

They warned that victims could lose banking details, passwords, OTPs and other personal data after installing malicious applications.

Unknown APK files pose serious cybersecurity risks

The Cyber Crimes Unit advised users to install applications only from trusted app stores.

Officials also urged people to review app permissions carefully before completing installations.

They warned against clicking APK links received through SMS, WhatsApp, email or social media from unknown sources.

According to the advisory, a single click on a malicious APK file can compromise an entire mobile device.

Meanwhile, cybercrime officials asked users to remain vigilant while downloading applications.

They stressed that following basic cyber safety practices can help prevent financial fraud and identity theft.

The advisory forms part of ongoing efforts by Hyderabad Police to create awareness about emerging cyber threats and online scams.
