Police apprehend accused for using fake number plate to evade challans

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police detected a fake number plate case involving misuse of a vehicle registration number to evade traffic challans and penalties.

Based on information shared by Hyderabad Traffic Police, Chengomul Police in Vikarabad district registered a criminal case and apprehended Md. Khayyum (46), a resident of Manneguda in Pudur mandal.

During investigation, police found that the accused affixed fake registration number AP28DK4592 on his vehicle. The original registration number of the vehicle was AP28AZ1087.

Police said the accused allegedly used the fake number plate to avoid traffic enforcement and challan penalties. As a result, traffic challans were wrongly generated against the genuine owner of vehicle number AP28DK4592 from Dood Bowli in Hyderabad.

Fake number plate used to evade traffic challans

Meanwhile, police registered a case under FIR No.114/2026 at Chengomul Police Station. Authorities booked the accused under Section 318(4) BNS read with Section 80(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police also issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) BNSS.

Officials said Hyderabad Traffic Police and Chengomul Police jointly detected the case through coordinated investigation and technological surveillance.

Further, police stated that CCTV cameras and ANPR systems helped identify the violation.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police warned that usage of fake, identical or tampered number plates was a serious punishable offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.

Additionally, officials urged citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle registration numbers through the e-Challan portal, email or WhatsApp helpline.
