Cyberabad police book 284 drunk driving cases in weekend drive

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 284 drunk driving cases during a special weekend enforcement drive and warned that motorists driving under the influence of alcohol would face strict legal action.

According to the police, the enforcement campaign resulted in the apprehension of 284 offenders across the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits. Among them, 247 were riding two-wheelers, three were operating three-wheelers, and 34 were driving four-wheelers.

Police officials said all offenders would be produced before the court. The drive was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and prevent accidents caused by drunken driving.

Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, 223 offenders recorded readings between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 33 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 28 offenders registered levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

Drunk driving cases attract strict legal action

Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. The department warned that any person found driving in an intoxicated condition and causing a fatal accident would face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Police stated that the offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine. Officials urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and to adopt responsible road safety practices.

The department also released details of court disposals from the previous week. Between June 1 and June 6, courts disposed of 164 drunk driving cases. Of these, two offenders received fines along with jail sentences, 16 offenders were ordered to pay fines and perform social service, while 146 offenders were punished with fines alone.

Cyberabad Traffic Police said enforcement drives would continue regularly to deter violations and ensure safer roads for all commuters.
