Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Monday said Congress would sweep the Kamareddy and Nizamabad civic polls. He attributed the confidence to a strong public wave in favour of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the state government’s performance.
Addressing a press conference in Kamareddy on the final day of campaigning, Shabbir Ali said voters clearly experienced the difference in governance. According to him, Congress gained overwhelming support within two years of assuming power, reflecting public approval of its administrative record.
During the campaign period, he said he personally toured 45 of the 49 municipal wards in Kamareddy over four days. In addition, he conducted intensive outreach programmes in nearly 12 wards each day. As a result, he said people consistently demanded a strong and accountable government.
Moreover, Shabbir Ali said voters rejected leaders who ruled for a decade without delivering results. At the same time, he criticised representatives who disappeared after elections. He claimed feedback from the ground indicated near two-thirds support for Congress.
Kamareddy civic polls and Congress development push
Highlighting welfare initiatives, Shabbir Ali referred to the ₹500 LPG cylinder scheme, free RTC bus travel for women, free electricity up to 200 units, and restoration of old ration cards. He said Congress delivered these measures swiftly, unlike the previous BRS government.
Meanwhile, he said he pushed development proposals worth ₹200 crore for Kamareddy. Many of these, he added, already received government approval. These included ₹8 crore for an indoor stadium at Indira Gandhi Stadium and underground electricity substations.
Notably, Shabbir Ali said Kamareddy was among only four towns selected for underground substations. He further stated that the Godavari drinking water supply would increase from 4 MLD to 10 MLD by March-end. Alongside this, officials inspected proposals for CC roads, stormwater drains, and repairs to damaged civic assets.
Targeting BJP MLA Ramana Reddy, Shabbir Ali accused him of neglecting constituency development. He criticised remarks made during flood incidents and described them as irresponsible. He also alleged that the MLA delayed the sanctioned substation project citing elections and surveys.
Additionally, Shabbir Ali accused the BRS of misleading Telangana youth for a decade. He said no member of their families secured a government job during BRS rule. Based on internal assessments, he predicted Congress would win between 32 and 35 wards in Kamareddy and form the municipality on its own.
Finally, he thanked voters for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during campaigning. He urged people to reject divisive politics based on caste or religion. He said Congress relied on trust, performance, and long-term vision rather than money or inducements.
