Hyderabad: Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy asserted that Congress would retain its political strength in Palair. He made the remarks during celebrations marking 1,000 days of the Congress government in Telangana.
Congress organised a large bike rally from Nayakangudem to Kusumanchi as part of the celebrations. According to the organisers, around 1,000 motorcycles participated in the rally.
Ponguleti travelled in an open-top jeep during the rally, accompanied by party leaders and workers. Later, he cut a cake at the main centre in Kusumanchi to mark the milestone.
Ponguleti targets BRS over previous government
Addressing party workers, Ponguleti criticised the previous BRS government and its leadership. He alleged that the party had failed to adequately address people’s needs during its tenure. He also accused BRS leaders of targeting the Congress government despite what he described as its welfare and development initiatives.
Ponguleti cited Indiramma housing, free bus travel for women and free electricity up to 200 units among the government’s initiatives. He also referred to job notifications for unemployed youth. The minister said the Congress administration had brought a significant change in governance compared with the previous government.
Ponguleti said the Congress government had completed 1,000 days under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership. He claimed welfare and development programmes were reaching poor households across Telangana.
The government was addressing sectors that had faced neglect during the previous administration, he said. He also said the government was working to benefit farmers, women and unemployed youth. Dalits, BCs and minorities were also among the sections receiving government support, he added.
Congress in Palair will remain strong, says minister
Turning to his constituency, Ponguleti said substantial funds had been directed towards development in Palair. He promised to undertake more development works in the future.
The minister accused the previous BRS government of neglecting the Palair reservoir and local farmers. He alleged that water had instead been diverted towards Mahabubabad and Suryapet districts.
Ponguleti described Palair as a traditional Congress stronghold and said the constituency was like his own home. He asserted that Congress in Palair would continue to remain politically dominant, irrespective of the efforts of its opponents.
Several local Congress leaders, elected representatives and party workers participated in the programme. They included mandal Congress president Bajjuri Venkata Reddy and district secretary Hafeez Uddin.
Former MPP Srinivas, Jukuri Gopala Rao, Kusumanchi Sarpanch Konda Krishnaveni and Palair Sarpanch Banoth Nageswara Rao were also present.
