Hyderabad: Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday said the Congress party would stay alert during the SIR voter revision process and protect eligible voters from wrongful deletion.
He joined a Zoom review meeting led by AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stressed booth-level monitoring during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He also called for coordinated action by party workers.
He said Congress leaders and cadre in Nalgonda and Bhongir Parliamentary constituencies were ready for the exercise.
The Minister instructed booth-level committees to protect genuine voters’ names.
SIR voter revision process under Congress watch
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy raised concerns over arbitrary deletions during the revision process.
He said Booth Level Officers must verify details in the field before deleting any voter name.
Officials, he said, should avoid mechanical deletions from offices. They should instead conduct door-to-door verification.
The Minister demanded notices for voters marked for deletion. He also asked officials to provide valid reasons and enough time for appeals.
According to him, the Congress party would press the Election Commission and district administrations to maintain transparency in the SIR voter revision process.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also directed corporators, councillors and booth-level leaders to work closely with election officials.
He warned that the party would file complaints at every level if officials deliberately removed genuine voters.
SIR voter revision issue may trigger protests
The Minister called for special complaint committees at Assembly and constituency levels.
He said senior Congress leaders K. Jana Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy would monitor developments related to the revision exercise.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy warned that the party would launch protests if authorities committed injustice during the process.
He said the united Nalgonda district remained a Congress stronghold. The party, he added, won both Bhongir and Nalgonda Lok Sabha seats before and after coming to power.
The Minister also urged the party high command to reward loyal workers with nominated and corporation posts.
Responding during the meeting, Meenakshi Natarajan said committed workers should receive positions. She also asked Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to suggest deserving names.
The Minister said he would hold consultations with Uttam Kumar Reddy, Jana Reddy and Mahesh Kumar Goud before finalising the list.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLAs from the united Nalgonda district and senior Congress leaders attended the meeting.
