Congress has history of insulting Constitution, says Telangana BJP chief

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress party of consistently insulting the Constitution and weakening democratic institutions for political gains.

Speaking at Republic Day celebrations at the BJP state office, Rao said former Congress Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi each undermined constitutional values at various times in history. He cited the imposition of the Emergency under Indira Gandhi. Rao also mentioned the Shah Bano case during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure as examples of institutional damage.

BJP leader slams Congress for ‘misusing’ Constitution

Rao alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was misusing the Constitution as a political prop. He said Rahul Gandhi was spreading falsehoods about the Modi government. Rao stated the Constitution demands responsibility from both citizens and governments, not just rights.

He also accused the Congress-led Telangana government of failing to address the needs of farmers, students and youth. In contrast, he praised the Modi administration’s rural reforms and welfare initiatives like PM-Kisan.

Allegations of voter list manipulation and extremist alliances

Rao further alleged that foreign nationals had been illegally added to voter rolls. He said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was launched to ensure electoral purity. Rao claimed Congress had aligned with extremist and communal groups. He urged voters to reject both Congress and BRS in the upcoming municipal elections.

The event was attended by senior BJP leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman, General Secretaries Dr. N. Gautham Rao and Vemula Ashok, Vice Presidents Dr. Kasam Venkateshwarlu, Dr. Boora Narsaiah Goud, and Banda Karthika Reddy. Others present included Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, and state media in-charge N.V. Subhash.

Earlier, Ramchander Rao felicitated Dr. K. Laxman for his role as Returning Officer in the party’s National President election process.
