CMC issues notice after food safety violations at The Spice Kitchen

Hyderabad: The Spice Kitchen at PNR Empire received an improvement notice after Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Food Safety teams detected multiple hygiene and food safety violations during an inspection on June 18.

The inspection formed part of CMC’s routine food safety monitoring programme across Cyberabad. Officials assessed hygiene conditions, food handling practices and compliance with food safety regulations at the establishment.

Inspectors noted that food handlers were using hairnets and aprons. However, the inspection team identified several serious violations in food preparation and storage areas.

Meanwhile, officials reported a heavy cockroach infestation in the kitchen, freezer and storage sections. They also found grain pests in stored food items.

The inspection team detected stale food stored in a freezer. In addition, several food items lacked proper labels, wrapping and date markings.

Further, inspectors found raw chicken stored without adequate wrapping. They also observed vegetarian and non-vegetarian items stored together, raising concerns about food safety practices.

Officials noted poor sanitation standards at the premises. They also identified damaged flooring near the wash area.

Following the inspection, CMC directed the management to take immediate corrective measures. Officials instructed the establishment to improve pest control, sanitation and food storage practices.

The corporation will issue an improvement notice to the restaurant. The establishment received a hygiene assessment score of 60 out of 108, translating to 56 per cent.

CMC said it will continue regular inspections across Cyberabad to strengthen food safety standards and safeguard public health.
