Hyderabad: BRS former ministers Srinivas Goud, Niranjan Reddy, and Laxma Reddy demanded an open public debate on Palamuru irrigation projects and asked ruling party ministers and MLAs to face the discussion.
As part of the Projects Bata programme on Tuesday, former ministers and ex-MLAs from the undivided Palamuru district visited the Jurala project. Subsequently, they addressed a media conference at the site.
According to them, successive Congress governments ignored Palamuru for decades. In their view, earlier projects served Andhra Pradesh’s needs and not Palamuru’s interests. They asserted that the Telangana movement led by KCR ensured the completion of the Jurala project.
They argued that Jurala’s limited storage capacity could not secure the region’s water share. Therefore, they said, the Palamuru–Rangareddy project became essential. They added that authorities had already completed 90 percent of the works.
BRS leaders accuse government of stalling Palamuru projects
The former ministers accused ruling party leaders of misleading people about project progress. Moreover, they said officials announced a crop holiday at Jurala without supplying water for the Yasangi season.
Instead of completing Palamuru, they said, the Chief Minister focused on lift schemes for Narayanpet and Kodangal. Consequently, they questioned how a one-TMC Boothpur reservoir could ever secure the region’s rightful water share.
The leaders reiterated that only the completion of the Palamuru–Rangareddy project could resolve the water crisis. However, they alleged that the present government ignored ground realities.
People expected faster project execution after Revanth Reddy became Chief Minister. Yet, they claimed, the government dashed those hopes.
Issuing a direct challenge, the former ministers asked ruling party leaders to visit Palamuru for a public debate. At the same time, they urged Congress leaders in the district to rise above politics and unite for the region’s water rights.
They warned that BRS would launch large-scale agitations if the government sidelined Palamuru. The programme was attended by Alampur MLA Vijayudu, MLC Naveen Reddy, and former MLAs Chittam Rammohan Reddy, Rajender Reddy, Ala Venkateshwar Reddy, Marri Janardhan Reddy, Anjaiah Yadav, and Patnam Narender Reddy.
