BRS seeks judicial probe into Jamia Nizamia Waqf land auction

Hyderabad: The BRS demanded a judicial enquiry into the auction of Jamia Nizamia Waqf land at Raidurg. It also sought an immediate halt to any transfer, registration or alienation of the property until an independent agency verifies its Waqf status.

Addressing the media on Friday, BRS senior leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail alleged that the Congress government auctioned the land despite Jamia Nizamia’s claim that it is Waqf property.

Jamia Nizamia Waqf land records questioned

Sohail urged the government to preserve all Waqf and revenue records related to the property. He also sought publication of correspondence involving Jamia Nizamia, the Telangana State Waqf Board, the Revenue Department, TGIIC and the Minorities Welfare Department. Furthermore, he demanded a white paper on all Waqf properties in Survey No. 83 at Raidurg.

He alleged that Jamia Nizamia and the Waqf Board maintained records, including Waqfnama entries, Kitab-ul-Auqaf, Muntakhab records and earlier notifications, identifying the land as Waqf property.

Sohail also claimed the authorities uploaded the property on the Union government’s UMEED portal and assigned it a unique identification number. However, he alleged that the government still auctioned the land through TGIIC without resolving the Waqf claim.

He questioned the Telangana State Waqf Board’s role and alleged that it failed to protect the property. He also asked why the Board did not file objections or initiate legal proceedings before the auction.

Jamia Nizamia Waqf land auction faces criticism

Sohail alleged that the government auctioned the disputed land for nearly ₹237 crore per acre, generating about ₹1,490 crore. According to him, the government prioritised revenue generation over protecting religious and charitable endowments.

He also questioned why the government reportedly offered alternative land to resolve the State Bank of India issue but did not extend similar consideration to Jamia Nizamia.

Furthermore, Sohail alleged that authorities ignored Waqf records, pushed disputes into litigation and later alienated the properties in the name of development. He urged the government to suspend all further action until an independent verification determines the Waqf status of the land.

Finally, Sohail said the BRS would support the community’s demand to protect Waqf properties and hold the government accountable.
