Ponnam Prabhakar launches Breakfast with Milk scheme in government schools

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday launched the Breakfast with Milk scheme in government schools across the state to provide nutritious food to students and strengthen public education.

Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated the programme at Raj Bhavan Government High School as schools reopened after the summer vacation.

The minister shared breakfast with students and distributed textbooks and notebooks.

Speaking on the occasion, Ponnam Prabhakar thanked the government for introducing the Breakfast with Milk scheme with a focus on quality standards.

He said the initiative would ensure that students receive nutritious food before classes.

The minister added that the government was implementing the Badi Bata campaign to encourage enrolment in government schools.

He said students would receive breakfast, milk and ragi malt six days a week under the programme.

According to the minister, the government is implementing the scheme with an expenditure of nearly Rs.800 crore.

Ponnam Prabhakar said the government was taking steps to encourage parents to enrol their children in government schools.

He expressed confidence that public education would become more attractive through improved facilities and welfare initiatives.

The minister said many people seek government jobs and welfare benefits but often overlook government schools and hospitals.

Therefore, the government is working to change that perception, he added.

He reiterated that the new programme would improve nutrition levels among students and support their overall development.

Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender also attended the launch programme.

MLAs Danam Nagender and Yashaswini Reddy, Hyderabad Collector Priyanka Ala, DEO Yadaiah, Manna Trust CEO Leena Joseph and other officials were present.
