Hyderabad: Social Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar on Thursday said disabled students welfare remained the State government’s top priority. He made the remarks during a surprise inspection of welfare institutions at Nalgonda X Roads in Hyderabad.
The Minister visited the office of the Assistant Director of the Department for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities. He also inspected the government hostel and the special school. He reviewed educational, residential and administrative facilities.
Disabled students welfare gets focus during inspection
Lakshman Kumar interacted with students during the visit. Hearing-impaired students explained their concerns through sign language. Thereafter, the Minister assured them that the government would provide the required facilities.
Further, he directed officials to prepare comprehensive proposals covering all student requirements. He also asked them to submit the proposals without delay.
The Minister took serious note of the teacher shortage. Accordingly, he instructed the Assistant Director and the school principal to submit details of vacant posts. He also sought proposals on staff requirements and infrastructure needs.
Meanwhile, Lakshman Kumar directed officials to prioritise education, healthcare and infrastructure. He asked them to monitor food quality regularly. He also stressed sanitation, drinking water, medical services, classrooms, teaching standards and student safety.
In addition, the Minister said the government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was giving high priority to the welfare of persons with disabilities. He said the focus remained on education, skill development, healthcare, social security and self-employment opportunities.
Finally, he instructed officials to resolve every issue with a humanitarian approach. He asked them to ensure welfare benefits reached every eligible beneficiary.
