Hyderabad: Adilabad police have arrested three youths involved in a cyber fraud ring that targeted victims across Telangana and beyond through fake marriage proposals, black magic offers, and honeytrap tactics. The accused, all under the age of 25, used social media and mobile apps to lure unsuspecting people and extort large sums of money.
According to the police, the trio Maloth Manji, Bukya Ganesh, and Rupavath Shravan from Suryapet posed as women online, used pre-recorded female voices, and trapped victims with fake live-in or marriage proposals. They also posted fabricated videos on YouTube, claiming they were looking for partners and offered financial assistance to gain trust.
Victims lured through fake marriage, black magic claims
In one case, they duped a man from Adilabad town out of ₹8 lakh by pretending to be a woman seeking a live-in relationship. Another victim from Nizampet in Medak district lost ₹48,000, while a Lingampet resident in Kamareddy district was cheated of ₹1.8 lakh. Investigators also found that the gang defrauded a man from Bengaluru.
Additionally, they ran fake black magic consultations online, promising to solve personal problems through rituals. Several victims were misled and paid money in desperation. Police also detained a minor connected to the gang’s operations.
Gang spent extorted money on gadgets, luxury lifestyle
Police said the accused used the money to buy expensive iPhones, motorcycles, and fund a lavish lifestyle. Their crimes were exposed after an investigation into multiple complaints, leading to their arrest. Adilabad DSP Jeevan Reddy said the gang exploited emotional and personal vulnerabilities for financial gain.
Police urge public to stay alert against online scams
DSP Reddy warned the public against trusting social media profiles offering marriage, financial help, or spiritual solutions. “Do not believe anyone claiming to solve your life problems through black magic,” he said. “Always verify matrimonial sites before proceeding. If you suspect fraud, report it immediately to the police.”
He advised citizens to avoid sharing personal details with unknown individuals online and remain cautious about suspicious links, calls, or messages.
