Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police have launched a robust ‘Zero Drugs Policy’ to ensure drug-free New Year celebrations across the city.
On Friday, Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, chaired a high-level coordination meeting at the Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills. He directed all senior officers to enforce strict surveillance and take coordinated action without delay.
He instructed H-NEW, the Task Force, Special Branch, and local police units to implement a multi-layered operational plan. Officers have been tasked with monitoring individuals previously involved in drug offences over the past two years and compiling a detailed list of known peddlers and consumers.

Pubs, hostels and private events under watch
Surveillance teams have already begun monitoring all pubs, hotels, restaurants, and public event venues. Additionally, officers will inspect private gatherings at service apartments and hostels to prevent illegal activities.
To prevent external threats, police will collect details of those entering Hyderabad for New Year events. Checkpoints at major entry and celebration points will operate with reinforced security.
Commissioner Sajjanar stated that all commercial New Year celebrations must end by 1:00 AM. He warned that establishments flouting the rule or allowing illegal activity risk losing their licenses immediately.
To manage crowd movement, police will fortify checkpoints at Necklace Road, Maitrivanam, Tank Bund, and KBR Park. While enforcement will be intense, the Commissioner made it clear that the public must not face inconvenience. “Our officers must help ensure safe and peaceful celebrations,” he said.
“Our aim is to prevent even a single drug case this New Year. Every officer has a duty to act with full coordination and uphold the honour of Hyderabad City Police,” Sajjanar affirmed.
Senior officers who attended the meeting included DCPs N. Swetha, K. Apoorva Rao, Rakshitha K. Murthy, Ch. Rupesh, Ch. Srinivas, and Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, along with Task Force Additional DCPs Ande Srinivasa Rao and Iqbal Siddiqui.
