Hema drug case ordeal leaves actress mentally devastated

Hyderabad: Hema drug case allegations left Telugu actress Hema “mentally devastated,” she said on Monday, adding that the controversy pushed her to the brink and deeply affected her family.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Film Critics Association at the Telugu Film Chamber, she said, “I felt like dying at that moment,” recalling the peak of the controversy. However, she maintained that she had done no wrong and had since been cleared of all allegations.

The actress alleged that sections of the media circulated baseless reports, which caused emotional distress to her and her family. At the same time, she said she continued to believe in responsible journalism and expressed hope that the media would present her version of events fairly.

Representatives of the Film Critics Association said the platform was provided to ensure that she could share her side of the story. Association president Battula Prasad Rao noted that misinformation, particularly on social media, was increasingly affecting both artists and journalists.

Hema drug case draws support from industry voices

Association general secretary Suresh Kondeti said Hema had held several positions in the Movie Artists Association and had consistently supported women in the industry.

He said he had often admired her courage and described the situation as unfortunate. He added that it was reassuring to see her emerge cleared of the allegations and speak openly about her experience.

The interaction highlighted concerns over misinformation and its impact on public figures, while also underlining the need for accountability in media reporting.
