Liquor sale hours extended in Telangana for New Year

Hyderabad: The Telangana government extended liquor sale hours across the state for New Year celebrations, allowing late-night sales at bars, clubs, and select liquor outlets under special excise orders.

Prohibition and Excise Commissioner C. Harikiran issued the orders, permitting bars, clubs, event organisers with valid permissions, and outlets in tourism areas to serve liquor until 1 am on December 31. A4 liquor shops can sell liquor until midnight.

The government also issued a special order to regulate liquor sales during New Year celebrations and ensure strict enforcement. Following this decision, the Excise Enforcement Department announced special inspections on December 30 and 31.

Event organisers have already prepared several celebrations across the state. Many large events are planned, especially in the city outskirts, to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the New Year.

New Year celebrations under strict enforcement watch

The Excise Department estimated the liquor business to be worth several crore rupees during the New Year celebrations. However, officials introduced preventive steps to stop unauthorised sales.

Meanwhile, the police department remained on high alert to maintain law and order. Officials warned that violations of excise rules would attract strict action.

Police said they will register cases against those who create a nuisance. This includes reckless bike riding and road disturbances. Authorities cautioned that violations during New Year celebrations will invite firm action.
