Bandi Sanjay welcomes SIT move in phone tapping case, questions probe outcome

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar welcomed the reported decision of the Special Investigation Team to issue notices to former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao in the phone tapping case, but questioned whether the probe would reach its logical conclusion.

However, the BJP leader expressed doubts over the state government’s intent to pursue the investigation beyond issuing notices. He said the prolonged delay raised concerns about the seriousness of the probe.

Posting on X, Bandi Sanjay alleged that KCR and KTR ordered the tapping of the phones of several leaders, including himself. According to him, the alleged surveillance created divisions within many families.

He further alleged that authorities tapped the phones of his daughter and son-in-law. Such actions, he said, compromised the integrity of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB). He referred to allegations that the phones of KCR’s daughter, K. Kavith, and her husband were also tapped.

Bandi Sanjay questions the handling of phone tapping case

Raising further allegations, Bandi Sanjay accused those in power of misusing the SIB to blackmail contractors and political leaders. He demanded a thorough probe into these charges as part of the phone tapping case.

Questioning the pace of the inquiry, he asked whether the government would identify those responsible. He compared the delay to television serials that ended while the phone tapping case continued without closure.

According to the Union Minister, investigation officers must receive full freedom to function without pressure. He stressed the need to expose what he described as conspiracies behind the alleged phone tapping.

Earlier, Bandi Sanjay appeared before the SIT in August to record his statement as a witness. Subsequently, he alleged that KCR ordered the tapping of phones belonging to his daughter K. Kavitha, her husband Anil Kumar, and nephew and then minister T. Harish Rao.

He also claimed that during the BRS regime, authorities tapped phones in the name of Maoist surveillance. According to him, misuse of the system led to the looting of thousands of crores.

The BJP leader further alleged that the SIB, meant to track Maoist activities, served personal and political interests. He claimed the surveillance targeted politicians, lawyers, businessmen, Osmania University professors, and film actors. He added that information from phone tapping led to the seizure of hundreds of crores from political leaders.
