Woman excise constable hurt as ganja smugglers try to flee in Nizamabad

Hyderabad: A woman excise constable suffered serious injuries after ganja smugglers rammed their car into her while trying to escape police in Nizamabad district, causing panic in the area. The incident highlights the ongoing problem of ganja smuggling in the region.

Excise police received prior information that a gang from Nirmal was illegally transporting a large quantity of ganja in a car. Acting on the tip-off, officials kept surveillance near Madhavnagar on the outskirts of Nizamabad.

As the suspicious vehicle approached, woman excise constable Sowmya moved forward to stop it. However, on noticing the police presence, the accused sped up the vehicle in an attempt to flee.

Ganja smuggling bid turns violent during police interception

During the escape attempt, the car hit Sowmya forcefully, leaving her with severe injuries. Fellow excise personnel immediately rushed her to a private hospital in the city. Doctors said her condition remained critical.

Meanwhile, police chased the vehicle and managed to apprehend two accused, identified as Mohammed Sofiuddin and Syed Shoaib. On inspection, officials recovered a large quantity of ganja from the car.

Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the ganja smuggling racket. They are now probing the wider network behind the operation and searching for other associates linked to the crime.
