Hyderabad: Ganesh immersion day on September 25 will bring a High Court holiday and restrictions on liquor sales in parts of Telangana. The Ganesh Navratri celebrations are nearing their end.
Devotees have immersed many Ganesh idols on the third, fifth, seventh and ninth days since Vinayaka Chavithi. The main immersion event in Greater Hyderabad will take place on Friday, September 25, on Ananta Chaturdashi.
The High Court registrar issued orders declaring a holiday for the court on the occasion. People planning to visit the court were asked to take note of the change.
The court will instead observe a working day on Saturday, December 5. The arrangement will compensate for the holiday declared for the immersion festival.
Ganesh immersion day brings liquor restrictions in Cyberabad
In Cyberabad, authorities will suspend liquor sales for 24 hours during the immersion celebrations. The restriction will remain in force from 6 am on September 25 to 6 am on September 26.
Wine shops, toddy compounds and bars attached to restaurants will remain closed during this period. However, bars operating in star hotels and registered clubs will remain exempt from the restriction.
Officials issued the order under Section 20 of the Telangana Excise Act, 1968. Police warned that violations would attract strict legal action.
The restrictions will also cover four districts during their respective immersion events. Wine shops in Karimnagar, Warangal, Siddipet and Medak will remain closed from 6 am on Wednesday, September 23, to 6 am on Thursday, September 24.
The closures will coincide with the start of Ganesh immersion activities in those districts. Authorities issued the restrictions as part of arrangements for the festival.
The Ganesh immersion day schedule in Greater Hyderabad will therefore coincide with the High Court holiday. The Cyberabad liquor restrictions will continue for 24 hours from Friday morning.
