Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao finalised farm implements under the farm mechanisation scheme and directed officials to speed up distribution.
He also asked officials to transfer subsidies directly into farmers’ bank accounts. Therefore, the process should remove intermediaries and improve transparency.
Tummala reviewed issues concerning the Agriculture and Cooperation departments at the State Secretariat. The meeting covered farm mechanisation, fertiliser availability, urea supply, oil palm cultivation and solar panels at Rythu Vedikas.
Officials had finalised the implements to be supplied under the farm mechanisation scheme, the Minister said. Accordingly, he asked them to select equipment based on farmers’ requirements.
Meanwhile, HACA officials were examining the empanelment list of suppliers. Tummala asked them to consider quality, price and farmer access before finalising the list.
He directed officials to ensure that subsidies reached beneficiaries without intermediaries. In addition, the system should provide benefits directly and transparently.
Farm mechanisation scheme gets direct subsidy plan
The Minister said the farm mechanisation scheme aimed to make agricultural operations easier and reduce cultivation costs.
Accordingly, he asked officials to speed up distribution after finalising the equipment. The selected implements should meet farmers’ requirements.
HACA officials were reviewing the empanelment of companies that would supply the equipment. Tummala asked them to complete the process quickly.
Furthermore, officials should assess quality and price while selecting suppliers. They should also consider whether farmers could access the equipment easily.
The Minister then reviewed fertiliser availability and urea supply in Telangana. He said there were no problems with overall urea availability.
However, he asked officials to resolve issues linked to the Central Government’s fertiliser app immediately. Some districts faced problems on Wednesday.
Officials contacted Central authorities and resolved those issues on the same day, Tummala said. Therefore, he directed the Agriculture Director to monitor mapping delays and similar problems.
Fertiliser stocks and app monitoring
District collectors and agriculture officers should report fertiliser app problems regularly. Subsequently, officials should coordinate with Central authorities for immediate resolution.
At the same time, Tummala called for wider awareness among farmers about the fertiliser app. Farmers should receive clear information about booking, availability and purchases.
The State currently has 2.79 lakh metric tonnes of urea. Meanwhile, DAP stocks stand at 0.33 lakh metric tonnes.
Complex fertiliser stocks stand at 2.25 lakh metric tonnes. In addition, MOP stocks stand at 0.31 lakh metric tonnes and SSP stocks at 0.20 lakh metric tonnes.
Under the August supply plan, Telangana was allocated 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of urea. So far, the State has received 1.17 lakh metric tonnes.
From April 2026 until now, urea sales stood at 6.65 lakh metric tonnes. DAP sales reached 2.59 lakh metric tonnes.
Similarly, complex fertiliser sales stood at 6.37 lakh metric tonnes. MOP sales reached 0.27 lakh metric tonnes, while SSP sales stood at 0.42 lakh metric tonnes.
During the corresponding period last year, urea sales stood at 7.32 lakh metric tonnes. DAP sales reached 2.12 lakh metric tonnes.
Complex fertiliser sales stood at 7.33 lakh metric tonnes. Meanwhile, MOP sales stood at 0.23 lakh metric tonnes and SSP sales reached 0.27 lakh metric tonnes.
Through the State urea app, 33.37 lakh farmers booked 1.38 crore urea bags. They subsequently purchased 1.24 crore bags.
Through the Central Government’s FFS app, 10.17 lakh farmers booked 42.34 lakh bags. They purchased 28.39 lakh bags.
Subsidy demand and oil palm expansion
Tummala said war conditions and international developments had placed pressure on supply systems. Nevertheless, the Government continued coordinating with Central authorities for required fertiliser allocations.
Special officials were posted at ports. Consequently, they worked to ensure that arriving urea moved to districts without delay.
The Minister also asked the Centre to extend subsidies to complex fertilisers. He said the existing policy encouraged greater urea consumption because of its lower price.
“Fertiliser pricing policy should be balanced. The subsidy system should encourage the use of all types of fertilisers,” Tummala said.
He said farmers needed balanced nutrients to maintain soil health. Therefore, he stressed the need to avoid excessive dependence on urea.
Tummala then directed officials to accelerate oil palm cultivation in Telangana. He said plant availability should increase according to farmer demand.
Accordingly, districts with higher demand should receive priority in supply. Officials should coordinate with district collectors to ensure timely delivery.
Farmers who applied for plants should not be told that plants were unavailable. Instead, the Minister directed officials to ensure delivery within two or three days.
Oil palm and solar panel rollout
Tummala ordered nurseries to maintain at least twice the target number of oil palm plants. Meanwhile, the Agriculture Secretary should obtain details of land held by different departments.
If nurseries require additional land, officials should explore vacant land belonging to other departments on a lease basis.
Tummala said drip irrigation was important for improving water-use efficiency in oil palm cultivation. Therefore, he asked the Oilfed MD to discuss the issue with drip irrigation companies.
Oil palm companies should install drip systems for farmers quickly, he said. In addition, the Minister asked officials to speed up construction of oil palm mills.
He directed officials to install solar panels at all 2,600 Rythu Vedikas across Telangana. A phased action plan should complete the installations within two to three months.
HACA, the State Government’s nodal agency, should coordinate with the REDCO Commissioner. Tummala asked the HACA MD to expedite the work.
He also spoke to the REDCO Commissioner by phone. Subsequently, he asked officials to examine the technical requirements and feasibility of the proposed installations.
Agriculture Secretary Surendra Mohan, Agriculture Director Gopi, Cooperation Special Commissioner Rahul Raj, Horticulture Director Yasmin Basha and HACA MD Chandrasekhar Reddy attended the meeting.
