TGPSC to hold Assistant Scientist exam today; DSC-2024 teachers seek probation clarity

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) will hold the online computer-based recruitment test (CBRT) for Assistant Scientist (Analyst Grade-II) posts in the Telangana Pollution Control Board on Saturday. A total of 19,568 candidates have applied for the exam, which TGPSC will conduct at 68 centres across 17 districts of Telangana. The commission announced the schedule in a press note issued on Friday.

TGPSC notified the 20 vacancies under Notification No. 01/OG/PC/2026, with a pay scale of ₹45,960–1,24,150. Hall tickets were available until 23 October.

The exam consists of two papers, each carrying 150 questions and 150 marks. Paper-1 on General Studies and General Abilities will run from 10 am to 12.30 pm in the forenoon session. Paper-2 on Chemistry will run from 2.30 pm to 5 pm in the afternoon session.

Candidates can enter the examination centres from 8.30 am to 9.30 am for the morning session and from 1 pm to 2 pm for the afternoon session. This window allows time for biometric verification, photo capture and other formalities. TGPSC is collecting biometric thumb impressions of candidates as a security measure against impersonation. The commission has advised candidates to read the hall-ticket instructions and check the address and location of their centre in advance to reach on time.

Mobile phones and gadgets banned in Assistant Scientist exam halls

Candidates may carry only their hall ticket, a black or blue pen and an original valid photo identity card into the examination hall. Electronic gadgets, including mobile phones and calculators, are not allowed. TGPSC warned that it will confiscate any such gadget found with a candidate, and the candidate will be liable for debarment.

Candidates must wear only chappals and not shoes. TGPSC has also advised them not to apply mehndi, tattoos or other external materials on their hands so that biometric details can be captured. Detailed instructions are available on the TGPSC website, www.tgpsc.gov.in.

Separately, leaders of the Telangana D.Ed and B.Ed Teachers Association met School Education Director Naveen Nicholas on Friday. They submitted a representation seeking early clarity on the probationary declaration of DSC-2024 teachers. The leaders said the absence of a clear declaration has created uncertainty over the second annual increment. Their demand centres on the administrative step of declaring probation so that pay and increments can proceed without further delay.

DSC-2024 was a large recruitment drive, with a notification for roughly 11,062 teaching posts. The results came out in late September 2024, and the department distributed appointment orders in early October 2024. About 10,006 teachers ultimately received appointment letters.

The recruitment has since faced issues, including some terminations over qualification disputes and complaints about fake certificates in certain districts. Naveen Nicholas has also handled other recent education department matters, including teacher attendance rules and clarifications on deputation postings.
